8hands Featured Artist: Julie Doiron
I'm almost sure I'm wrong here, but at least in my head Julie Doiron is one of most outstanding female-figure-singer/songwriter. She's got seven full length albums (including a debut album under the name Broken Girl), many EPs and even a split CD with Okkervil River. A song of hers got to be covered by Ben Gibbard (The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie) and even Smog's Bill Callahan spoke kindly about her.
Nevertheless, it seems like Doiron never had a real "fame" thing surrounding her – she came close though. With her 90's band Eric's Trip she created songs that are still floating above most of the Canadian indie scene, but as a solo artist, it seems like she was doomed to be loved only by a small & loyal group of people.
A Group that like me - I guess - are aware of the fact that Jessica Simpson, for example, is a bit more known, but is still convinced that everybody who has heard about Nick Drake, knows about Julie Doiron.

That's leaving a lie… I know… So, if you're not familiar with Doiron yet you gotta visit her MySpace profile, her last.fm page and her official website. Her soft folk-rock aesthetic is superb, and if you're not hooked immediately, pay attention to her lyrics – lines like "Well I lied and I cheated / and I died and I quit / and I tried to be good / but wasn't very good at it" must do something to your heart, other wise, you're just plain cold.
